Agnes Josephine Kraft, 76, of Mount Lebanon, PA, formerly a long-time resident of New York State, died Monday (Feb. 2, 1998) at St. Clair Hospital, Mount Lebanon, from diabetic-related complications. Born July 27, 1921, nee Agnes Harter, she lived many years in Hempstead and West Hempstead, Long Island, NY. As an accomplished pianist, she was for a time accompanist for Ray Heatherton, father of actress Joey Heatherton, also known as early TV's ''Merry Mailman''. While a faithful parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church, West Hempstead, she donated her sewing skills, helping to fashion hundreds of communion dresses for missionaries in many parts of the world to give to the poor and leper children receiving first holy communion. She married the late Frederick L. Kraft Jr., Nov. 5, 1941. Her husband died, Nov. 13, 1985. Moving to Mahopac, NY in 1959, she helped her husband start his insurance firm in Mount Vernon, NY working as his secretary and office manager. After raising three sons, she worked a number of years in the guidance department at Mahopac High School, later becoming secretary and assistant to the District Attorney of Putnam County, Carmel, NY. While living in Mahopac, Mrs. Kraft was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters chapter. Her later years were spent enjoying retirement and the company of her family, four granddaughters and a great-grandson. She is survived by two sons, Frederick L. Kraft of Mount Lebanon, PA and Peter R. Kraft of Hartford, (a third son, Thomas W. Kraft, formerly of Canandaigua, NY died, Nov. 19, 1992). She also leaves two daughters-in-law; Barbara F. Kraft of Mount Lebanon and Joanne D. Kraft of Chandler, AZ; a cousin, Mildred E. Astin of Framingham, MA and many dear friends who will miss her. Following cremation, a private memorial Mass will be celebrated in Mount Lebanon on Feb. 14, 1998. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT or to a charity of the donor's choice.
