Kenneth Coke, 98, of North Bend was born Sept. 2, 1914, in Winsdow, Mo. He passed away April 17, 2013, in Coos Bay.

He traveled west to work for the government CC's program. He ended up in Rock Springs, Wyo., working in the coal mines during World War II. Always supporting the unions, he went into politics and became a Wyoming state senator to make the miners' lives safer and livable. When the Wyoming economy dropped in 1952, he moved his wife and son to the Coos Bay area.

Kenneth worked in various mill jobs in the Coos Bay area. He ended up with a permanent job as a millwright for Weyerhaeuser. During this time, he built three houses, served as business manager for the wood workers union and was appointed to the State Apprenticeship and Training Council.

After retirement, he lived for 33 years in the home he built in North Bend. He became the caregiver for his wife until he needed help at age 95.

Kenneth is survived by his son, Jack and wife, Donna; sister, Minnie Katzenberger; sister-in-law, Liz Coke; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
