A lifetime Mantua area resident, he was a graduate of Crestwood School System. Ed retired in 2002 from Crestwood School System after 40 years of service in the maintenance department. Ed was the owner-operator of Cowan Christmas Tree Farm in Mantua Township for many years. A Master Woodworker, he was known for the many toys, furniture and beautiful wood pieces that he skillfully created. He was a collector of Hot Wheels and Match Box Toys. Ed was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mantua.
On September 11, 1957, he married Marlene R. Cowan who preceded him in death on March 25, 2007. He also was preceded by his grandson Matthew Arnett.
Survivors include his children Raymond (Deborah) Cowan of Toms Brook, Virginia, Andrew Cowan of Mantua, Elizabeth (Douglas) Arnett of Hiram, Kim Cessna of Carrollton, Ohio and Toni (Dan) Velek of Mantua. 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren also survive.
No calling hours. A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, March 1, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua Township. Friends and family are invited to return to his residence after the burial for a time of fellowship. Arrangements are by the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua.
