When the opportunity for better employment came, the family moved to Cascade Locks Oregon where her father began work for the Bonneville power co. and her mother returned to teaching . Ila loved the beauty of the area and spent many joyful summers fishing and swimming in the Columbia River. It was there that she met Richard "Dick' Ackerman , a handsome young Navy man from Stevenson Washington. Always interested in the world around her Ila was a avid reader she would read the Columbian Newspaper from cover to cover . Some of her favorite interests were flower gardening , airplanes , coin collecting , the Portland Trailblazers , traveling , going to garage sales and playing slot machines.

But more important thing in the world to Ila was always her family. She was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, wife and grandmother and aunt. There was not anything she would not do to help and support for her family and friends
