Marvin was born Aug. 13, 1936, to Henry and Pauline (McKinney) Akers in Garwood, W.Va. Marvin married Virginia Allen in June 1962. Virginia later passed away in April 1983. Marvin then married Wilma Jean Folden on Aug. 24, 1988, in Cedar Rapids.
Marvin owned and operated several gas stations in the Cedar Rapids and Marion area. Marvin later went on to work for Harnisch-feger for 17 years and then for Linn County until his retirement in 2001.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Jean; daughter, Pam (Ron) Crane of Springville; daughter, Paula Akers of Cedar Rapids; son, Mark Akers of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Lora (Keith) Griffin of Germanton, N.C.; son, Tony Folden of Garwood, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Nicole Crane, Ashleigh Akers and Austin Griffin; sister-in-law, Kathy Akers; along with several other brothers- and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Virginia Akers; and three brothers, Edward, James and Dennis Akers. Memorials may be directed to the family.
