Found in The State 24 June 1943: Mrs. Emily Hopkins, wife of Dr. James R. Hopkins of Swansea, died at the Columbia hospital at 11:40 last night. Funeral arrangements were not known early this morning.
Found in The State 25 June 1943: Funeral services for Mrs. J. R. Hopkins of Swansea who died at the Columbia hospital Wednesday will be held at the Thompson Funeral home, West Columbia, this morning at 11 o'clock. The services will be in charge of Mrs. Hopkin's pastor, the Rev. Edgar W. Davis of the Swansea Baptist church. Interment will follow in Elmwood cemetery. Surviving are her husband, Dr. J. R. Hopkins of Swansea and Hopkins; two sisters, Mrs. L. C. Devereaux of Charleston and Mrs. Edith Sullivan of Baltimore; one niece, Mrs. Hazel Roturean of Columbia; a nephew, Albert Sullivan of Baltimore. Other nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Hopkins was Miss Emily Veroni of Charleston. She was educated in the city schools of Charleston and at Memminger high school in that city. Her first husband was J. L. Salley, a prominent merchant of Woodford and Swansea. For many years Mrs. Hopkins taught the young people's group in the Swansea Baptist church and was active in all other church affairs.

Lily and Edith Veronee Sullivan can both be found on the 1880 US Census for Charleston, Charleston, SC, daughters of James, 42, and Emma, 37, making her parents most likely James Fleming?/Francis? Veronee and Emma Jewel.
