Jesup, Ga. - Roy Lee Channell, Sr., 67 of Jesup, Ga. died Tuesday, February 25, 2014 in Wayne Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

The Wayne County, Ga. native was born to the late Jim Willie Channell and Leona Pauline Clark. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Charles Wesley Channell and a sister: Alice Jeanette Clark.

He attended Wayne County schools. Known as a cheerful friend with a wonderful sense of humor, Roy was a devoted family man who loved his children, home and extended family. He really loved getting together at family reunions and dinners. After moving to Dade City, FL, he worked for many years at a radiator shop and in the orange industry, repairing and maintaining equipment. Later, he returned to Jesup to work as a millwright and was a member of Millwrights Local #256 of Savannah, GA. In his spare time, he built and remodeled several homes, built the family home and business. Although he was an especially talented handy man, Roy's real love was old cars and 50's and 60's music. He enjoyed working on and restoring 1950's cars. One special car of his was a 1955 Chevrolet 2 door hard top. He also enjoyed watching wrestling, racing, and old westerns on TV. He attended Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife of 30 years, Mary Elizabeth White Channell of Jesup, Ga.; 3 sons, Roy Lee Channell, Jr., Jim Wesley Channell, Charles Steven Channell, all of Jesup, Ga.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lucille Catherine and Randall Vaughn of Fort Meade, Fla., Sarah Ann Channell of Jesup, Ga.; 6 grandchildren, Kyle Allen, William "Reide" Vaughn, Laynee Vaughn, both of Fort Meade, Fla., Brennan Channell of Jesup, Ga., Tracy Carpenter, Debra Channell, both of Palatka, Fla.; 4 great grandchildren, Taylor McDaniel, Bailey Carpenter, Brilee Carpenter, Conner Allen; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolyn Lynn, Pearline and Carl Thornton, both of Jesup, Ga. Vivian and Butch Jackson of Gray, Ga.; a host of special nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends.

Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Friday, February 28, 2014 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with Rev. Vann Dempsey and Rev. John Carlton officiating. Interment will be in the Hortense Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Gene Ivey, Josh Ivey, John Bollinger, Carey Mosley, Jr., Mitch Beverly and Riley "Lee" Hall.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 A. M. prior to services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, Ga. 31545.
