Mrs. Moses Maughan, 78, one of Rathmel's well known and highly respected residents, died at her home there at 7:40 o'clock on Tuesday evening, October 8th, 1935, following a protracted illness, due to complications.
The deceased was born in Scotland, June 26th, 1857, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Cowie. She came to this country when a young lady and a few years after her arrival here, was united in marriage to Mr. Maughan. They located in Rathmel about 30 years ago and have continuously resided there. Mrs. Maughan won the friendship and esteem of many people of this section who sincerely mourn her passing. She was a woman of many admirable attributes and her loss will be keenly felt in the community in which she lived.
Mrs. Maughan is survived by her husband and the following sons and (Continued on page five) daughter: William Crop, of Helvetia, a son by a former marriage; James Maughan, of Rathmel; Moses Maughan, Jr., of New Kensington; Mrs. Thomas Armstrong, of Clairton, and Alex Maughan, of Dixonville. One sister, Mrs. Fred Carlson, of Brockway; two brothers, Charles Cowie, of DuBois, and Thomas Cowie, of Adrian; fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were conducted at the bereaved home, Saturday afternoon, by the Rev. R.F. Miller, Ph. D., pastor of the local Presbyterian Church. Interment was in the Reynoldsville Cemetery.
