Dr. Vernon “Doc” Hanson, 81, of Monona, Iowa died, Sunday, February, 23, 2014 at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He was born on June 12, 1932 to Almer and Ida (Larson) Hanson in Maud Township, rural Waukon, Iowa. Vernon graduated from Waukon High School in 1950 and received his Doctorate of Chiropractor in September of 1961 at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Vernon entered the United States Army on November 4, 1953 in Des Moines, Iowa serving after the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on August 5, 1955 at Fort Hood, Texas.

Doc was united in marriage with Helen Hagen on June 10, 1961 at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church, rural Waukon, Iowa. Three sons were born to this union. Doc farmed east of Waukon following high school and he also worked at Rath Packing. He owned and operated Hanson Chiropractic in Monona, Iowa for many years. Doc enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandkids.

Doc is survived by his wife, Helen of Monona; his sons, Dr. Todd (Karla) Hanson of Monona and Scott (Lisa) Hanson of Monona; eight grandchildren, Gretchen, Amanda, Adam, Emily, Isaac, Ella, Abe and Eli Hanson all of Monona; two step-grandchildren, Rachel (Jason) Huber and Ryan (Morgan) Berns; two step-great grandchildren, Jayden Huber and Lilly Berns and his two brothers, Larry Hanson of Grand Island, Nebraska and Arden (Joyce) Hanson of Waukon.

Doc was preceded in death by his son, Mark Hanson in 1999; his parents; a sister, Cynthia Winkie and a sister-in-law, Margaret Hanson.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 4-8 pm at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Friday.

Funeral Services will be at 11 am on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon, Iowa with Rev. Ken Kimball as the Officiant.

Burial will follow at Old West Paint Creek Cemetery with Military Honors in rural Waukon, Iowa.
