Marijke J. (Van Fleet) Silvent, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19th, 2014, in Leesburg, VA, after fighting a brave, valiant battle with triple-negative breast cancer.

Marijke was born in Akron, OH on April 1, 1973 to David and Ella (Webb) Van Fleet. She grew up with her brother Dirk and parents in College Station, TX, where she attended schools through the 10th grade.

After the family relocated to Scottsdale, AZ, she graduated from Chaparral High in Scottsdale and earned a BA degree from Northern Arizona University in Broadcast Communication, with minors in Biology and Psychology. Her early career positions as a reporter-journalist and TV News Anchor included TV stations in TN, AZ, TX, and IN. Later she worked in public relations for organ donation at Donate Life of Arizona, Arizona Game & Fish, and the Scottsdale Unified School District.

On October, 24, 2008 Marijke married the love of her life, Edward F. Silvent, originally of West Wyoming, PA, and in 2011 moved to Leesburg, VA. Marijke believed that her greatest accomplishment was hers and Ed's sons, Edison (age 3) and Cajetan (age 1).

Marijke had a life-long love of all animals and nature and had several interests including a passionate love of hockey, listening to an eclectic array of music, and photographing everything in sight. With camera in hand, she taught us to take one day at a time and truly savor the moment. But most of all she loved motherhood and cherished time with family and friends.

In addition to her loving husband and two sons, Ms. Silvent is survived by her parents in Scottsdale, AZ, her brother, Dirk (Burbank, CA), and her 105 year-old grandmother, Flonnie Webb-Stephens (Oneida, TN). She also leaves aunts and uncles: Etta Webb Price (Oneida), Mary Lou Clark (Farmland, IN), Lynna Ruth Standridge (Chattanooga), Kathy Van Fleet (CA), Patti Petruzzi (PA), John Van Fleet (PA), and Bob Van Fleet (Oak Ridge TN).

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd NE, Leesburg, VA 20176. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Saint John the Apostle Catholic Church, 101 Oakcrest Manor Dr NE, Leesburg, VA 20176. Burial to follow service at Saint John Cemetery, Leesburg, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations for the trust funds that are being set up for the 2 boys or for the payment of medical expenses: Ed Silvent, 826 Ferndale Terrace NE, Leesburg. VA 20176 This obituary provided as a courtesy by West-Murley Funeral Home.
