If the marriage is his, it would be a 1st wife as he married Missouri Amazon [Singleton] Argo Smithson on 26 May 1861 in Carroll County, TN. Also, he appears to be single in 1860 census. Therefore, if this is his marriage, she would have died shortly after marriage. Possibly not him.
