Bernt M. (Ben) Carlson

Bernt M. Carlson, 94, passed away April 8, 2000. He was born in Vardal, Norway, on Dec. 6, 1905, to Karl and Karen Kjaesarud. Ben left Norway in April 1926 and went to Saskatchewan, Canada, where he worked on the Canadian National Railroad. He later worked in mining in the Cornell, BC area, where he met his wife Amy. Ben and Amy moved to the U.S. in 1947 and built their home in Graham in 1948, where they had a trout farm and raised chinchillas. He later retired from a job with the Pierce County Road District. Ben was a member of Mountain View Lodge No. 194, F&AM in Graham, WA; Scottish Rite Consistory in the Valley of Tacoma; and the Afifi Shrine Temple.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and sisters, and his wife Amy. He is survived by three sisters in Norway, Olga Undrum, Palma Lokken, Valborg (Harald) Trostrud, and numerous nieces and nephews in Norway; also niece Lillian Buchanan and family in Tacoma and vicinity. Ben will be missed by all his family and many, very special friends.

Viewing will be held Friday, April 14, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 15, at Mountain View Garden Chapel, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, mailed to Afifi Shrine, 815 So. Vassault, Tacoma, WA 98465-2097. Arrangements by mountain View Funeral Home. 584-0252.
