JACOB HALVORSEN

Jacob Halvorsen Bakken. an old resident of this town, died at his home, on Wednesday evening of this week, aged 75 years 7 months and 14 days. The deceased was a native of Norway, but came to America forty-three years ago and has lived in the town of Argyle since that time. He had been a sufferer from asthma for about 30 years, but had been seriously ill only two weeks. He leaves a wife and eight children, three others (children) having died. The funeral will be held at the Yellowstone Lutheran Church today, Rev. P.J. Johnson conducting the services.

Jacob and his wife Kari settled on the Mineral Point Road, on what is known as the old "Bakken" or "Jacobson" homestead at the foot of the hill near the Mud Branch Creek (the name Bakken indicates the home location at the foot of the hill or "Bakken" in Norwegian.) They went by the name Bakken much of the time.
