Ernest Oakes, born Nov. 18, 1929 in Rome, GA; passed peacefully at his home in Parkland early Tuesday morning, April 5, 2005. He has gone to the heavens to be with his wife and true love Joyce, who preceded him in death on Aug. 2, 2001. Ernie served honorably in the USAF for 22 years, which included a tour in Viet Nam. He also retired from the University of Puget Sound where he worked as Grounds Foreman. Ernie is best known for his kind and loving heart and his joking ways. He was the loving father of Alton (Michiko) White III, of Auburn, WA; Debbie (Kim) McKibben of Puyallup, WA; Terry Oakes of Spokane, WA; Carrie Oakes of Tacoma, WA; and Jason Oakes of Tacoma; grandfather of Alton White IV, Jason Oakes, Jr., Zachary Clouse, and Ryan Skinner; great-grandfather of Alton S. White V; Kaitlyn Marie White; and Emmaline Joyce White; brother of Mary Brown of Rome, GA; and Ophila (William) Barnes of Rome. A Graveside Service will be held at Fir Lane Memorial Park, Spanaway, WA, 11am, Friday, April 8, 2005.
