Services held for George Wentworth (Thursday, Aug. 2, 1973 Services for George Carr Wentworth, 93, a long-time resident of Wickenburg and Arizona, were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Wentworth died Friday, July 27 at the Wickenburg Community Hospital.

Born in LaVernia, Tex., on Dec. 11, 1879, he prospected in Mexico as a young man near the turn of the century.

He was employed by the El Paso Southwestern Railroad Bisbee-Douglas area until 1906, when he moved to the Congress-Bill Williams area.

He was a miner in the West Central Arizona area and hauled freight for many Yuma County camps in the earlier 1900s. He operated the Bullard store in Congress in 1913 and the Brayton Commercial Company store in Wickenburg from 1917 to 1938. He was appointed as Wickenburg Postmaster and held that post until his retirement in 1955.

Mr. Wentworth is survived by his three sons Murray and Robert of Wickenburg, and Tom of Nogales; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
