Jacob; the son of Francois Isaac La Bas and Sarh Jennings, married Elizabeth Bailey 29 May, 1824 in Monroe County, Indiana. In Janruary 1847 he made his first trip to Oregon, returning to Indiana in 1848. In 1849 Jacob along whith his son Marion returned to Oregon where he stayed until he returned to Iowa in 1853, to find his wife, Elizabeth , had passed away the year before. He moved to Freemont county near Sidney,Iowa and lived there until 1862, when he, again, came west with quite a compay of relatives. He lived with the family of his son Oradon in Forest Grove and later in Lafeyette. Jacobs father Francois came to the United States with Lafeyette during the revolutionary war.
