Funeral services for Grady Evans Brooks, Sr., age 80, of Clarkesville will be held on Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at 4:00 PM from the Bethlehem Baptist Church.


Dr. Bill Cashion, Rev. Jon Huebner, Rev. Tommy Stowe, and Rev. Jacob Harris will officiate with burial to follow the service in the church cemetery.


Mr. Brooks passed away Saturday, October 30, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his family.


Born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 2, 1930, Mr. Brooks was the son of the late Jordan McAfee and Mamie Crowe Brooks. Mr. Brooks was a veteran having served 12 years in the United States Air Force and 23 years in the United States Army Reserves, attaining the highest enlisted rank of Sergeant Major. After graduating from Clarkesville High School in 1948, Mr. Brooks earned his BA from the University of South Florida and his Masters from the University of Minnesota. Mr. Brooks was an educator holding many positions throughout his career such as a teacher at North Habersham High School, principal in Stephens County, he worked in the High School at Georgia Industrial Institute and Cornelia Elementary, and he held a term of the Habersham County School Superintendent. Mr. Brooks was also a farmer and he was a member and deacon of Bethlehem Baptist Church. In addition to his parents Mr. Brooks is preceded in death by a brother Emory Brooks and sisters Betty Seale, Daisy Ann Powell and Jeanette Lavigne.


Survivors include his wife Mona Kennedy Brooks of Clarkesville, son and daughter in law Grady E. "Chip" and Pam Brooks, Jr., of Clarkesville, daughter and son in law Beth and Rev. Jonathan Huebner of Arlington, Texas, brother Bobbie Jack Brooks of Valdosta, and six grandchildren
