John's Great-Grandfather William Allen Starling, Jr. (1781-1862, FAG128962292) and first wife, Penelope Harrell (b.1774) had six children: ELIZABETH (b.1800), CALEB (b.1802), REBECCA (b.1804), LEVI (1805-1883), ALLEN (b.1810, FAG86392973) and John's Grandfather: ABRAHAM (b.1803, who had 11 children with wife Nancy Griffis: Juniper b.1829, Thomas b.1831, Elizabeth b.1834, Rebecca b.1836, Eliza b.1838, Sarah b.1840, Martha b.1842, William b.1843, Joseph b.1845, Rhoda; and ALLEN (John's father, born 1827-1828 in Ware County, GA). In 1847 ALLEN Starling married Emily Norman (born 1822 -25 in Liberty, GA). A census taken 26-Jun-1860 shows Allen and Emily had moved to New River Co., FL. with their oldest son, Simon (b.1847). The 1870 Bradford County Census lists JOHN W. living with his father Allen (age 43), his mother Emily (age 47) and his five youngest siblings: Julia (age 18- b.26DEC1847); Abraham (16), Isaac Newton (1855-1933, FAG 29132032); Easter F. (b.23MAR1857, d.1958); and Mary Ann (1870-1960).
In the 1900 Baker County Census, JOHN W. STARLING was living with wife Mozelle E. Starling, six sons: George H., age 14; Oscar and John H, both age 11; Marion W., age 8; Ernest D., age 4; Rufus M., age 1; and daughter Maud M., age 6. In the 1910 Census, the entire family lived in Bradford County, and had added 2 younger daughters, Emily, age 10 and Cassie, age 4. In the 1920 Census, John and Mozelle lived in Manatee County with just their youngest child, Cassie (then age 14).
