John G. Deiwert, 80, of Dugger, passed away at 8:50 a.m. Jan. 2, 2004, at Miller's Merry Manor in Dugger. Born in Shelbyville on May 20, 1923, he was the son of Harry and Blanche Deiwert. Johnny was actually born a Scudder to John Scudder and Elizabeth Dewey, later to be adopted by Harry & Blanche in his highschool years. He was an announcer for WSRK in Shelbyville. Survivors include his wife, Eileen Kelley Deiwert of Linton; five sons, Kevin Deiwert of South Carolina, Jay Deiwert of Mauldin, S.C., Danny Martin of Muncie, Ronald Martin of Princeton and Marvin Martin of Carlisle; five daughters, Cheryl Harrington of New Hampshire, Beverly Waldrop and Jane Brown of Greer, S.C., Sue Sexton of Wilford, S.C. and Linda Swan of Dugger; and several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Kim Deiwert and one daughter, Kathy Elmore. Graveside service was at 1 p.m. today at Miller's Cemetery near Shelbyville with the Rev. John Booker officiating.
