Death of James Cornelius
After an illness extending over seven months, from a complication of diseases incident to old age, James Cornelius, aged 68 years, 7 months and 9 days, died at 8:20 o'clock this morning at the residence of his son-in-law, H. H. Kolb, on Bellmont avenue.
The deceased was born at Alexandria and lived most of his life in Shaver's Creek valley, Huntingdon county. He was united in marriage to Miss Anna Bare at Alexandria, January 4, 1855. About fifteen years ago he removed to Warriorsmark valley where he was engaged in farming until 1881, when he took up his residence in Warriorsmark village, giving up active work on the farm. Here he resided until two years ago when with Mrs. Cornelius he came to Tyrone and they had since made their home with their daughter.
Mr. Cornelius was a veteran of the civil war, having served his county faithfully in the 125th artillery, Pennsylvania Volunteers. He was wounded at the battle of Cedar Creek, and never fully recovered from the injuries received. The deceased was a member of the Warriorsmark Lutheran church, and in the worship and service of his Master ever took a devout and active part.
Surviving him are his wife and six children. The latter are William Davis, of Warriorsmark; J. Reid, Samuel and Adam, of Patton, Cambria county; Mrs. Anna M. Jackson, of Cleveland, Ohio; and Mrs. H. H. Kolb, of Tyrone. One brother, Peter Cornelius, of Altoona also survives.
Funeral services will be conducted at the residence of H. H. Kolb on Bellmont avenue, at 10 o'clock Saturday morning, by Rev. F. L. Bergstressor, pastor of the First Lutheran church, to which friends of the family are invited. Interment in Tyrone cemetery.
