Below is an excerpt taken from a letter written by a family member as it showed up on Ancestry.

David and Harriet Mackey Farr were parents to Bazil -- Bazil and Elizabeth Shaver Farr were the parents of Mary Jane and David J. When David J. was about 9 years old (about 1859), the family moved to North Carolina. (Note from Mary Ann Carver Dames: 1850 census has Bazil and family already living in North Carolina.) Not just Bazil and his children, but also his mother and brothers and sisters that were still at home. David (Bazil's father) was not listed on 1860 Graham Co. NC census, so I think he is dead when the family moved..
They settled in Graham Co. NC and according to what info I can find, most of the Farrs stayed there for at least 25 to 30 years.
Bazil is still alive in 1880, according to the soundex for NC. He was 52 years old. His son, David, was married and had at least four children. Bazil still had four children at home.
Sometime between 1887 and 1900, the Farrs (David J., Elizabeth, John and others) moved to Kansas, settling in Osborne and Russell Cos. Elizabeth, the wife of Bazil was living in Russell Co. with a son-in-law, Thomas B. Phillips. Bazil evidently died on the way to Kansas. He is buried near Salina, Kansas, along with David J.'s wife, Mary, and daughter, Julie. When Elizabeth dies she will be buried there.
David J. then returned to North Carolina and on 11 April 1903 remarried at the age of 52. He had 10 additional children to the 9 children of his first marriage. He died at the age of 82. I know nothing of his second marriage except he had a son named Albert. Among the children of his first marriage was Jefferson Alexander Farr, who married Dixie Emiline Hyde. They had eight children, one of them Virgil Grnat [sic], who is my husband's grandfather.
