DEATH OF GEORGE PURDY ESQ., By the death of Geo. A. Purdy , Esq. ,
which occured at his home on the evening of the 6th. Bear River loses another
aged and respected citizen. Mr. PURDY was the son of the late Samuel PURDY of
Deep Brook , and was born in 1820.He was thus 78 years of age and for the past
year has been in very feeble health. His sudden death did not greatly surprise
his friends. He came first to Bear River when he was 16 years of age and with
the exception of his early manhood when he resided near Annapolis, he spent his
life here and taken a prominent part in the public affairs of the village ,
being one of the J.P.'s of Digby Co. He was married in 1844 to Miss HARRIS who
survives him and by whom he had nine children , four of the sons Councillor C.
H. PURDY,Messrs James H. and John A. PURDY and Capt. George PURDY are among Bear
River's most respected residents. Another son, Capt. Norman PURDY is absent at
sea. Two daughters are living , Mrs S. M. WALSH of Boston , and Miss Alma PURDY
of Bear River. One brother Mr. Cereno PURDY of Deep Brook still survives. The
funeral took place from his residence Sunday afternoon.
