He was born April 17, 1924 in Garnerville, the son of Otto and Bessie Sanders Yates. He married Lillian Mae Tucker on March 7, 1953 and she preceded him in death on Oct. 8, 1969. He then married Wanda Geraline Dill on Aug. 20, 1970. Mr. Yates was a custodian of the First Baptist Church in Carmi.
Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Wanda; two daughter and sons in law, Darla and Carl Sturgal and Pam and Andy Sutton, all of Carmi; a son and daughter in law, Jim and Joyce Courson of Newburgh, Ind.; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
