He was born Sept. 4, 1900 in Summerhill, a son of the late William and Claretta Paul Reed. He was married to Viola M. Griffith Reed on Nov. 26, 1928. She survives.
He was a member of the Emerickville United Methodist Church and was a retired coal miner and farmer.
Survivors include four sons, five daughters, 30 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson (Robert Beard, Jr.), one sister (Myrtle Shoemaker), and one brother (William M. Reed).

Funeral services will be held at 11am Wednesday at the Emerickville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Craig Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Emerickville Methodist Cemetery.
He had a strong love of gardening (flowers/ fruits/ vegetables), grafting, trapping, walking, reading, fishing, sitting on the front porch swing, and spending time at church. He was a steadfast Christian and memorized countless hymns and Bible verses.
