Ida Mar Redd Markham

Ida Mar Redd Markham, of Spanish Fork, Utah, passed from mortality March 20, 2000, after an extended struggle with cancer.

Ida Mar was born in Blanding, Utah, March 28, 1917, to Lydia Nielson and John Wiley Redd. She attended The Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Denver, Colorado, graduating in 1939 as a Registered Nurse. She married Ben S. Markham on June 6, 1940, in the Manti LDS Temple. Ben died on December 12, 1959.Ida Mar and Ben were blessed with two children, Dr. Judith Ann (George Holt) of Logan, and Ben Stephen (Julie Cannon) of Oakton, Virginia.

She leaves behind nine grandchildren: Michele Larsen (Kent), New York City; John Holt (Debra), Corpus Christi, Texas; David Markham (Carolyn), Houston, Texas; Samuel Markham, Provo; Jeffrey Markham (Laura), Provo; Daniel Holt, Princeton, New Jersey; Ben Holt, Bloomington, Indiana; Stephen Markham, Provo; and Corinne Markham, Oakton, Virginia. Four great-grandchildren also survive: Michael and Elizabeth Larsen of New York City and William and Matthew Markham of Houston. A beloved grandson, Stephen Holt, died in 1996. Three brothers also survive: Lyman, of Blanding, Utah; Robert, of Sun Lakes, Arizona; and George, of Garden City, Kansas.

During the first twenty years of marriage to Ben, Ida Mar filled her life with service as a wife, mother, care giver to extended family and friends, and church worker. After she was widowed, Ida Mar added her nursing career to her roles, working at Payson Hospital, Utah State Hospital, and finally at Utah Valley Hospital as a nursing supervisor until she retired in 1979. She served faithfully in many callings in the LDS Church, including most recently as a Temple Ordinance worker, a Relief Society teacher, and an extraction worker. An avid reader of religion and history, she read the Book of Mormon each month for more than a decade until limited by recent health problems.

Though she is missed by family and friends, we are strengthened by the memory of her example and effort in this life. We rejoice in the knowledge of her reunion with her husband, parents, grandson, sister Louisa and brothers Preston and Sherman who preceded her in death.

Friends and family may call at Walker Mortuary from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 24th, and on Saturday, March 25th, at the Spanish Fork First Ward Chapel from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral services which will be held at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ida Mar Markham's name to Hospice for Utah, 293 E. Stonebridge Dr, Draper, UT 84020
