Bernard M. Ferris, 78, of Battle Creek, died on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Ferris was born on April 24, 1935 in Hastings to Lewis and Edith (Whitworth) Ferris. He attended Marshall Schools. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves for a few years. On July 2, 1955 he married Marjorie A. Wilbur in Ceresco.
Mr. Ferris worked for Post Cereal Company in Battle Creek for 36 years retiring in 1991. He also farmed in the Convis Township area for the majority of his life. He was a member of the Post 25 year Club, and the Goldwing Road Riders Association. Mr. Ferris loved the outdoors, camping, and fishing. He enjoyed his antique tractors and traveling to different tractor pulls in the area. His main passion in his life was farming and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie of Battle Creek; children, Dennis Ferris of Battle Creek, Dean (Teresa) Ferris of Marshall, Diane (Mike) Herr, Judy (Tom) Carr, and Duane (Joyce) Ferris all of Battle Creek; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Waneta (Kenny) Miller of Kinderhook, Gordon (Kay) Ferris, and Keith (Betty) Ferris all of Battle Creek. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Richard Ferris.
Visitation will take place at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home, 723 US 27 North, Marshall, on Friday, February 14, 2014 from 2-8pm with family present to greet friends from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral services celebrating his life will take place at 10am on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home with Reverend James Codde officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Family will gather with friends following the committal service at the Kempf Funeral Home Reception Hall. Memorial contributions are requested to Great Lakes Hospice and to the Calhoun County Relay for Life. Assistance with memorials is available at the Kempf Funeral Home.
