Wanda Lee (Chaney) Holbrook, 85, of Winnabow, NC died on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at her home. She was the beloved wife of the late Julian Harvey Holbrook, Jr. Born in Union County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Stanley Cleveland and Maude Victoria (Griffin) Chaney and the sister of the late Hubert Chaney and Madge Jarvis-Snyder. Mrs. Holbrook worked as a typing and advanced English teacher at Holly Hill Junior High School in Volusia County Florida before her retirement. In 2006, she and her sister moved Winnabow, NC where they lived side by side in a duplex home. During their last years, as in their childhood, they were inseparable.

She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews: Sara Jarvis, Hubert Chaney, Myrtle "Mickie" Meyer, Barry McKillop, Thomas "Tam" McKillop Jr., Donna McKillop Federal, Randall V. "Chip" Holbrook, Jr., and Todd Christopher Holbrook.
Wanda was a devoted wife, sister, aunt, daughter and cousin. She had a deeply generous spirit and enjoyed singing and spending time in nature. She had a quick wit and loved to laugh. She was a voracious reader and a cat lover. She appreciated antiques and antiquities and spent many hours studying the great works, particularly of the Greek and Roman eras. We who loved her mourn her loss, but take solace in the thought of her rejoining loved ones who passed before her.

The family wishes to thank Wanda's dedicated and loving caregivers from Comfort Keepers who embraced her as if she were their own mother or aunt. Special thanks to those who had been by her side for many years: LaTonya Dewitt , Rhonda Mason (Wanda's "Little Mess"), Sheri Arthurs, and Janeen Martin. Thanks to them, her last years were comfortable and punctuated with laughter and music.

Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service Wednesday, February 19 at noon at the chapel in Coble Ward Smith Funeral Home, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC. Burial will be private.
