He was married to Margaret(Satterwhite) Hinkebein. He was a native of New Albany, Indiana. They did not have any children. Frank was extremely smart and made furniture at the Mengel Company. He later invented the plastic bag making machine. At this time he did not work at Mengel Company. He gave the patent to his employer with the promise that they would keep health insurance on his wife as long as she lived. They promised him they would. One month after his death in 1979, they dropped health insurance on Margaret Hinkebein. The owner of the patent was worth millions by then.

Frank and Margaret were members of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Louisville Ky. Margaret's sister was Virginia(Satterwhite) Head. Franks last name is misspelled in the Courier Journal obit.
