Olivia (Hochhalter) Bertsch, 90, whispered "Jesus Lead the Way" on February 11, 2014 at Turtle Lake Community Memorial Hospital.

Services to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, 15 February at Grace Lutheran Church McClusky.

The burial will be in the McClusky City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.

Olivia was born on January 20, 1924 in Willa, ND to Jacob and Emilia (Gomke) Hochhalter. She grew up on a farm near Burt, ND and attended school at Odessa #1 school, #2 in Hettinger County.

She married the Love of her Life, Herman Bertsch, on 28 October 1945 in Christ Lutheran Church of Burt, ND. Olivia was a homemaker and mother and followed Herman from the homestead farm near Burt, to Beulah and Wishek. They then moved to a farm near McClusky in 1959 where she farmed with Herman until 1994 when they retired and moved into town. Olivia enjoyed reading, quilting, sewing, quilting, baking, quilting, gardening, quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Together Olivia and Herman raised seven wonderful children. She is survived by: four daughters, Helen Hoffer (Alvin) of McClusky, Sharon Allgor (David) of Dover, DE, Laurel Kukert (Delmer deceased) of McClusky, Kathleen Mauch (Terrance) of Bismarck; three sons, Darrell (Rita), Dennis (Kate), all of McClusky, Donald (Claudette) of Rapid City, SD; 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Delores (Lloyd) Sprecher of New Leipzig and five brother-in-laws: Ben (Sharon) of Glen Ullin, ND; Herbert of Washington; Rudy (Nita) of Louisiana; Oscar (Johanna) and Theodore Bertsch of California, six sister-in-laws: Viola Prischmann of Fargo, Frieda Winterroth of Washington, Regina (Fred) Sommers, Martha Lake, Vicki Bertsch, and Gloria Bertsch all of California.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Herman Bertsch, infant sister, Emma Hochhalter, her brother and sister-in-law, Harold (Lydia) Hochhalter, her infant great-grandson, Armin Oliver Folke, and her parents, Jacob and Emilia Hochhalter.
