W. D. Merrifield, the Founder of
Merrifield, Dies at a Local
Hospital, May 5th
W. D. Merrifield, aged 68 years, died on May 5th, 1910, of a paralytic stroke at a local hospital. The old gentleman was removed from his home at Merrifield last week to a hospital here for treatment. His advanced age proved a bar to his recovery.
He resided for over 35 years in Merrifield and was its first settler, the village being named after him. The deceased was unmarried. A brother arrived from his old home in Maine and was in attendance at the funeral.
The funeral was held this afternoon from Losey & Dean's undertaking parlors at two o'clock, Rev. Hugo Thorene officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery. (Brainerd Daily Dispatch, 07 May 1910, p. 3, c. 2)
