James "Jim" William Belden Jr., 72, passed away with his family by his side Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, in Fort Worth after a courageous battle with cancer. Celebration of life: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Southwest Christian Church, 7101 Trail Lake Drive, Fort Worth. Interment: 10 a.m. Wednesday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, with full military honors. Jim was born Aug. 31, 1941, in West Frankfort, Ill., to James William Belden Sr. and Mabel Ruth Center Belden. After graduation from Carlsbad High School in 1959, he joined the Air Force and served 20 years in the United States, Canada, Guam, Korea, Vietnam and the United Kingdom. While in the UK, he received the Air Force Commendation Medal. He met and married Maureen Patricia Stark in May 1974. Jim and his family moved to Benbrook when he retired as an Air Force technical sergeant in 1979. He then started a new career with the Fort Worth ISD for 18 years before retiring in 1997. Jim was a longtime member of Southwest Christian Church and a loyal Texas Rangers fan. Known for his sly smile and generous heart, he shared his passion and faith with his son, Robert, his family and all who knew him. He enjoyed fishing, building models and working on classic cars. Survivors: Loving wife of 39 years, Maureen Belden; son, Robert Belden; mother, Ruth; and brother, Bob Belden (Danelle). Jim was favorite Uncle "Bill" to Heidi and Scott Peiper, Russell and Tanya Belden, and Katie Belden; great-nephews and great-niece, Ian, Zack and Lauren; sister-in-law, Kathleen Parker (Mike) and children, Brian and Heather; and brother-in-law, Brian Stark (Gaytha) and family.
