Guy Amuso, Jr., 80, of Sarasota, passed away on February 1, 2014. He was born October 2, 1933 in Pittsburgh, PA. Guy graduated from Sarasota High School in 1952, University of Tampa, BS, 1959, and Nova University, MS in 1979. He served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1956. Guy was an outstanding athlete during high school and college years, and taught and coached during the period 1959 to 1994 in local schools. He specialized in football, track and field, with emphasis on pole vaulting, producing numerous state champions. He continued coaching after his retirement for another 20 years, and still managed to be active in outdoor sports, i.e., hunting, fishing and boating.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Pearson Amuso; sons, Lance A. Amuso and Mark D. Amuso (Amy); sister, Nonnie Coda Southworth (Chuck) of Pittsburgh; brothers, Philip T. Amuso (Jean) of Tampa, FL and Francis P. Coda ( Mary Ann) of Pittsburgh; his mother, Grace Polito Coda of Sarasota; grandchildren, Nolan, Cameron, Rachel, Beau, Travis and Pearson; and a great granddaughter, Lilliana.
A Memorial Mass will be held at the Church of the Incarnation Catholic Church in Sarasota on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 9:30 AM. Interment at Sarasota National Cemetery will be private. Arrangements by Toale Brothers Funeral Home.
