In 1940, his son, Leroy, was living with George, who was now widowed. George employed a housekeeper, Effie Carpenter (59, NE), who was living in the home with her 16 year old granddaughter, Nadine Carpenter (16, NE). Nadine would go on to marry Leroy in 1943.
