Earl Stewart Bishop, 96, Westminster, Colo., died Jan. 30, 2014, in Westminster, Colo.

He was born April 9, 1917, on a farm northwest of Heyworth, the son of Frank and Della Stewart Bishop. He went to Bloomingdale School and attended Heyworth Community High School. Earl had three siblings who all preceded him in death: Alta Thrasher, Lyle C. Bishop and Bernadine Carroll.

Earl married Yvonne Denton Purcell on Dec. 27, 1947, at Second Presbyterian Church in Bloomington. Yvonne was the daughter of Frank and Myrtle Grubel Purcell. Yvonne preceded Earl in death.

Earl and Yvonne raised two children together, a son, Darrell L. Bishop, and a daughter, Beverly A. Bishop. Darrell and his wife, Doreen, who reside in North Plainfield, N.J., have one daughter, Emily A. Bishop, who lives in New Orleans, La., along with her husband, Kevin Leftwich, and their two sons, James and Henry. Beverly lives in Westminster, Colo., and has no children.

After his school years, Earl continued to work the family farm, but then did move to Bloomington and worked for Thor Corp. from 1946 to 1955 in the assembly room and in the inspection department in the shell plant. He went to work for General Electric in 1955 in the inspection department and continued to work there until his retirement in 1980.

In 1996, Earl and Yvonne moved to Northglenn, Colo., to live closer to their daughter, Bev. Together, they enjoyed 10 years of the great Colorado weather and scenery, often taking outings to the mountains. After Yvonne's death in 2006, Earl continued to live alone in his house, with the help of his daughter, until the fall of 2012, at which time he moved into an apartment in the Arbors of San Marino, an assisted-living facility in Westminster, Colo. He enjoyed his time there, making quite a few friends among the staff and other residents. He was visited often by his daughter and his two dogs, and enjoyed having his son and daughter-in-law make several trips out to see him, as well.
