Sister Marcia Tangeman, 91, died November 25, 1995, at Mount St. Scholastica Convent, Atchison, Kansas.
The former Veronica Tangeman was born July 10, 1904 at St. Benedict, Kansas, the second of six children of Bernard and Elizabeth Sohlfeld Tangeman.
A skilled cook and seamstress, she worked at a private home in Kansas City for several years before joining the Benedictine Sisters in 1935. She celebrated vows of religion in 1937. She was a graduate of Mount St. Scholastica Academy and College.
For more than 40 years, she taught elementary grades in schools of Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa and Colorado. Among her places of teaching were the former St Benedict’s School, Kansas City, KS; St. Joseph School, Shawnee, KS; and St. James School, St. Joseph, MO.
Survivors include a sister, Sister Vernard Tangeman of Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, KS; a number of nephews and a niece.
Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, November 28 at 10:30 a.m., in the Mount St. Scholastica Choir Chapel with burial following in the sisters’ cemetery in Atchison.
