Jessie Lee Aldridge, 72, of Newton, died Aug. 12, 2000, at Brian Center East after a period of declining health. Born March 23, 1928, in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Lewis D. and Bertha Moody Aldridge. A member of Startown First Baptist Church, he retired from Sherrills Furniture. He was a former owner and operator of Shug's Service Station in Long View. He was preceded in death by three wives, Evelyn Clark Aldridge, Dorthy Wycoff Aldridge and Virginia Bridges Aldridge; a brother, Lewis Aldridge; and three sisters, Lora Murry, Jenny Ellis and Charlotte Brown. Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Linda and Gene Starr and Sandra and Daniel DeFrank of Newton; three brothers, Joe Aldridge of Rhodhiss, Ralph Aldridge and Rom Aldridge of Boone; a sister, Essie Justice of Lenoir; three grandchildren, Matthew Starr, Joshua DeFrank and Elaine Lutz; and a great-granddaughter, Jessica Lutz. The funeral was conducted by the Revs. Len Aldridge and Dean Hart at 2 p.m. Monday at Catawba Funeral Home. Burial was in Catawba Memorial Park.
