Served in the Union Army, Co. E, 22nd Indiana Infantry. - Enlisted; Aug. 15, 1861. KIA at the Battle of Chaplin Hill, KY.

Parents: Ira Nelson and Fanny Nancy (Tooley) Thayer.

Section B, Grave # 18 (in Perryville National Cemetery)
Originally buried on the battlefield @ Perryville. In 1865 he was moved to to a nearby hillside with other Union casualties and reburied in a marked grave.
In 1867 after failed attempts to purchase the land, the Federal Govt removed and re-interred all @ Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
