Lula Smith Barger, 79, of Hickory, died Nov. 24 at Brian Center in Viewmont. She was born in Catawba County to the late Robert A. and Dovie Whitworth Smith. Mrs. Barger was retired from Red Sox Hosiery Mill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Barger. Survivors include a daughter, Joan Hayes of Hickory; a son, Bobby Barger of Hickory; a sister, Wilma Wilkie of Hickory; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A graveside service was conducted at Catawba Memorial Park by the Rev. Jerry Stines. Bass-Smith Funeral Home served the family.
