Jenifer Rudolph Adams of Sutton went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Braxton County Memorial Hospital. He was born June 9, 1926, in Sutton, and was the only child of Daniel Jenifer and Edna Adams.

He attended Bowling Green Grade School, located on Airport Road, and graduated from Sutton High School in 1944. He was president of his junior and senior classes, as well as being the student body president. He was an outstanding athlete and selected as a member of the All-Central Conference football team.

He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II and was a gunnery instructor stationed at Minneapolis, MN.

He was employed with the C&P Telephone Company in Charleston in 1951 and retired in 1982 after being employed as a supervisor for installation of teletype and data equipment. Upon retirement, he returned to the family farm on Airport Road.

He was a Master Mason of Sutton Lodge No. 21 and Strange Creek Lodge No. 130. He was a Royal Arch Mason and belonged to Bigelow Lodge No. 4 in Weston. He received his Fifty Year Bible and had recently completed 60 years of service with the Masons.

He had been a devoted and faithful member of Heaters United Methodist Church since 1982. He taught the adult Sunday school class, served as president of the official board and taught the Wednesday Night Bible Study Class. He was a well-respected member of the church, very knowledgeable in Bible history and always supported the church in all of its endeavors.

He loved music from an early age and taught himself to play the guitar. In the Navy, he was part of a band called the Southern Notes. After returning home, he played with various local artists at county events. He loved listening to music, especially gospel and bluegrass.

He was also an avid hunter and loved the art of blacksmithing.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Betty Jean Marple Adams; his three sons, Michael (Barbara) Adams of Flatwoods, Danny (Cheri) Adams of Parkersburg and John R (Brenda) Adams of St Albans; grandchildren, Heather Lynch, Joshua Adams, Peter Michael Adams; and step-grandchildren, Kenna Baker, Kristy Hartsgrove and Shawn Souther. He also had four great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at Heaters United Methodist Church, Heaters, with the Rev. Vaughn James and the Rev. Eric Veltre officiating.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Heaters United Methodist Church in care of Shelia Hamric at 7849 Gem Road, Heaters, WV 26627.
