Ruth, and her husband Paul, operated their business together that was known as Stroup's Soda Shop and later became known as Stroup's Jewelers. Her hobbies included her love of fishing, especially at Chetola Lake in Blowing Rock, where she claimed her "own" fishing bench under the trees. She was an avid gardener, who could make anything grow from flowers to vegetables. She loved to cook for her family and enjoyed many years of participating in the growing up years of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Interment in Hollybrook Cemetery.
