John Stinebaugh was a Confederate soldier and was discharged at Rockwall, Texas by Colonel Joseph O. Shelby who told his men to go two and two on their way home as it was dangerous to go alone, and before dispersing, turned the cannon north and fired the last of the ammunition.
John Stinebaugh did not go home to MO, but remained in Texas with his brother, Sam, and sent for his parents. They were Baptist, farmers and extensive land owners.
