He married Mary Rebecca Robbins McIntire on 23 Dec 1852 in Hempfield Twp, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania. Mary McIntire was the Daughter of Jacob McIntire and Maria Goodlin. John, Mary, Clarissa, Margaret and John M headed west from Westmoreland Co, Pennsylvania to Scotch Grove, Jones Co, Iowa in 1860 with John's brother Philip and his family. John and Mary Kuhns had 10 children:1 unknown, Clarissa, Margaret Alice (Ross, Kilbride),John M, Charles Joseph, Jennie Marie (Smith), James B, Jessie Mary (Sandell), Nora M (Menke)and Lucy Kuhns. Lucy Kuhns died on 26 Nov 1873 and is buried in the same cemetery as her father. John B kuhns died 28 Sep 1873. He was 46 years 2 months, and 12 days old. He was buried at Franklin, Lee County, Iowa in the Franklin Cemetery per the records at the Donnellson Public Library in Donnellson, IA. Tombstone was broken and stolen and only the base remains.
