John attended St. Mark's and St. Luke's grade schools, and Washington High School, Two Rivers. John served his country with the U.S. Coast Guard, serving from 1943 to 1946.

On July 13, 1946, he was united in marriage to Gladys Prucha at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Two Rivers. The Rev. C.V. Hugo presided at the ceremony. The couple celebrated 62 years of marriage this past Sunday.

John was a construction worker, employed with Hoffman Brothers Incorporated of Two Rivers for most of his career, retiring in 1988. He was a very active, and charter member of the former Holy Redeemer Parish, now St. Peter the Fisherman Parish. John enjoyed playing baseball for the Whitecap Brewery Team for many years and enjoyed time spent with his family. He especially had a great love for his grandkids and great-grandkids.
