Jessie Eloise Benson, 84, Bemidji, died April 29, 2002 at North Country Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bemidji. A memorial service will be at Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji. Burial following cremation will be in Fern Township Cemetery, Becida.

She was born March 22, 1918 in Becida, the daughter of Earl P. and Margaret (Sankey) Roberts. She grew up and went to school in Becida. She moved to Sioux Falls, SD, and lived there for three years, then returned to the Becida area and worked for several farms. She married Chester Lind in 1940 in Bemidji and they lived in Becida, Grand Forks and Minneapolis. They moved to Bemidji in 1949 and she was the owner-operator of Security Café from 1953 until 1964. They were divorced in 1960. She married Harry Benson in May 1964 in Park Rapids. They moved back to Sioux Falls, where she owned the Rite Spot Café and summered at their cabin on Big Wolf Lake. She retired in 1978. Mr. Benson died in September 1990 and she moved to Bemidji. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge in Bemidji and held many offices in the organization. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting and going to the casino. She was always helping people and had an open-door policy at her house.

She is survived by two daughters, Yvonne Wolfe and Margaret Freinik, both of Bemidji; a son, David (Bonnie) Lind of Bemidji; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Janet (Jim) Malterud and Margaret Rearick, both of Bemidji; three brothers, Lyle Roberts of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Earl "Sonny" Roberts of Becida, and Lyndon Roberts of Panama City, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and infant grandson; four brothers, Dale, Stanley, George and Leslie; and an infant sister. (Bemidji Pioneer May 2, 2002)
