Archibald Alfred Thorpe son of Mr and Mrs Thorpe of Northfield Road was born at Speldhurst on November 11th 1895, After being at school at Speldhurst he became a Groom and joined the 1st Army Veterinary Corps. as Private in March 1916. He contracted meningitis while in training camp and died from that disease at St Marks VAD Hospital Tunbridge Wells on July 7th 1916 and is buried at Speldhurst.
