Walter "Bill" Ren, 51, died at his home in Columbia Falls Sunday morning.

He was born March 8, 1918 at Wolf Point to Elmer and Stella Ren. He grew up at Wolf Point and attended schools there.

Mr. Ren was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army.

He was married on May 6, 1942 to Bernice Hauglum at Sidney.

Following his discharge from the US Army, he returned to Montana and was employed by the Montana-Dakota Utilities for one year before coming to the Flathead where he was employed in sawmill operations at Half Moon and at Whitefish for three years before being employed by Pacific Power and Light Company, in the spring of 1949 as a lineman.

He moved to Columbia Falls 17 years ago.

Mr. Ren was a former member of the Columbia Falls Police Department and had served on the Columbia Falls Police Commission. He had been a member of the Columbia Falls Volunteer Fire Department for 17 years and was a member of the Columbia Falls VFW Post 5650.

He is survived by three children, Walter L. Ren of Seattle, Washington, Mrs. Charles (Linda) Walters of Tacoma, and Mrs. Neil (Lana) Sorenson of Columbia Falls; his mother, Mrs. Stella Ren of Beaverton, Oregon; one grandson; and two brothers, Emory Ren of Columbia Falls and Tennis Ren of Richland, Washington. He was preceded in death by one brother, Alva, during World War II in 1944 and by his father, Elmer, in 1961.
