Henry "Hank" Harter, 101, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at his home in Portland, Oregon. He was one of seven children born to George and Sarah Harter in Glenwood, Washington.
Hank worked most of his life as a heavy equipment operator in the Portland, Oregon area and retired in 1964. He was a lifetime member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 701.
Hank served in the military from 1942-1945 with the Engineering Special Service Regiment.
He was married to his wife, Frances, for 45 years, until her death in 1993.
Hank had a great memory and enjoyed sharing stories at family gatherings. He lived a long and healthy life and will be missed by all.
Hank is survived by his brother, Harold "Dutch"; two step-grandsons, Mike and Larry; great-granddaughter, Mandie; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Frances, his brothers, Forrest, Roy and Perry; sisters, Gladys Lucas and Dorothy Winnicki.
A graveside service was held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon, on Tuesday, February 4, 2014.
