ROCK HILL -- Mr. Henry Grady Lane Jr., 78, of 1569 Estes Drive died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at home. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oakland Baptist Church, with the Rev. Shelden Timmerman and Dr. Robert Shrum officiating. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Hills Cemetery. A native of Bainbridge, Ga., Mr. Lane was a son of the late Henry Grady Lane Sr. and Ada Howard Lane. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He graduated from Georgia Southwestern Junior College and Georgia Teacher's College with a bachelor's degree in education. He earned a master's degree in education from Appalachian State University. He taught elementary and high school. He was the first principal of Finley Road School. He was principal at Central Elementary School and Ebinport Elementary School. He worked in the health-physics department with Duke Power Catawba Nuclear Plant and with Analytical Environment Company. He volunteered with Project Hope, Safe Passage and Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens. He was a member of Oakland Baptist Church, where he was a senior men's Sunday school teacher. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Ann Simpson Lane; his son, Henry "Hank" Grady Lane III of Peachtree City, Ga.; his daughter, Juliet Lane Johnson of Rock Hill; two sisters, Myron Lane Tillery of Statesville, N.C., and Grace Lane Early of Greensboro, N.C.; and five grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel.
