On last Monday evening E. Brantley COMBS, of Center Township, left his home and went over to his cousin Aaron's, a mile away, on an errand, and while standing in the yard talking and laughing in his accustomed manner suddenly sinks to the ground and expires without a word of warning or complaint. A messenger was forthwith dispatched to Solsberry for Dr. P. M. COOK, but when he arrived the poor man was cold in death. No cause was given for the sudden and sad occurrence, but it was probably apoplexy or heart trouble. He had been a man in more than ordinary good health all his life and had as much promise for a long life as anyone. The deceased was a son of the late John J. COMBS and was well known and respected all over Greene County. He was an old and successful teacher of the county, having taught a term in the Bloomfield schools several years ago. At the time of this death he was teaching at the Bingham schoolhouse in Center Township. He was also deputy assessor of his township, and in fact a man fully qualified to fill any position. His wife, who was a daughter of John H. GLOVER and two children survive him. He had just completed a new and cozy home, and had everything around him, which contributes to the comfort of family and friends. His remains were followed on Wednesday by a large number of friends to the COMBS graveyard where they were laid peacefully to rest. The many friends of the family and those who knew the many excellent qualities of the deceased as husband, father, teacher and neighbor will deeply regret his death.
