DARLINGTON - Jennings Heyward Howle Jr., age 79, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at the McLeod Hospice House. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 30 at Black Creek Baptist Church with interment in Black Creek Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Born March 7, 1932 in Darlington County, he was the son of the late Jennings H. Howle Sr., and Nell Parnell Howle. Mr. Howle served his country in the Unites States Air Force as a Military Police during the Korean War. He was also stationed in Japan where he was responsible for training dogs for the military.

After his military service, he worked at the US Library of Congress for over thirty years, until his retirement. He then moved back to Darlington for a few months before returning to Washington to work for the Kennedy brothers in their furniture business, getting the chance to meet many influential people. After working for the Kennedy's for ten years, he moved back to reside in Darlington.

Jennings enjoyed gardening, travelling and history. He was a member of DAV and also a member of Black Creek Baptist Church. He will be remembered as a man with a great sense of humor.

Surviving are his sisters: Marjorie Davis, Frances Dutton, both of Darlington, Shirley (Marion) Wallace, of Florence, and a very special friend Eudora Spivey, of Darlington, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Gainey Howle.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Friday, April 29 at the funeral home. And other times at the home, 563 Stanley Circle.
